About the KING6
Purchased in 2002 from a local salvage lot, it was a damaged vehical that was sideswiped on the passenger side. It originally came from Texas so the title remain unsalvaged. Despite 175k on the odometer, heavy damage and some motor problems, I had to have the car. I never seen one before.. and I loved the style. First parts to be replaced included the windshield, passenger fender, passenger door, fuel door lid, and the Aspec corner lense. Shortly after, standard maintnence items were to be worked on.
The next couple years misc parts were fixed or replaced, and minor modifications were done. The motor dropped a valve at 190k miles, due to excessive high rpms. I went through the process to rebuild a motor, but never had the crank regrind..wich later caused a spun bearing at less then 100miles. I once again rebuilt the bottom of the motor, completed it and installed it. Not even a week later I came acrossed a low mile used long block for $400.
This began the crossroads from being a mild NA enthusiest, to diving into world of boosted motors and performance. I bought the motor, swapped it in and the rebuilt motor has been in storage since. A year later I had the body of the car fixed and painted. Originally I planned to build the entire turbo setup from scratch and provide the service of building turbo pipes. It wasent even a few weeks into my fabrication that the stainless SSAC turbo pipes were released. I bought the pipes and started gathering turbo parts over the next 1 1/2 yrs. Summer of 06 I successfully turbo'd my mx6 with a non intercooled setup and on an FMU. Fall of 06 I began the process of installing the front mount intercooler and cleaning up the engine bay. Spring of 07 a Megasquirt v2.2 unit and Millenia S injectors were installed and the front mount setup was complete. Finally, I was able to enjoy the car, for a few days.
What most dont know:
I built this over the years of 2002-2007. I began this project knowing almost nothing about turbo cars. Everything was payed for right out my pocket. No credit cards, No Sponsorships, No Mommy & Daddy, No inheritance,. Just an avearge joe, working an average job.
